Default Red-throated Loon and others

As Ed mentioned, this morning I found a Red-throated Loon in the center of Benbrook Lake while scanning from Longhorn Park on the east side of the dam. D.D. Currie, Dell Little and Blaine Carnes arrived to view it, and the bird cooperated by swimming north up the lake to afford closer views. As I waited for the them to arrive I also found 4 Common Loons and 4 Red-breasted Mergansers, both difficult birds to find in Tarrant County.
The loon was still present when we left it around 11:30.

I was silly enough to go out yesterday to scope for the loon. Although I saw 2 loons VERY far out in the middle of the lake, the wind was kicking up all types of white caps and ID wasn't certain. Will return again this week and will post.

Default still at Benbrook

Greg Cook found the loon about 8:30 a.m. today. Still from Longhorn Park at the east side of the dam. The lake was a bit rough this a.m. and likely to be worse later today.

I went out there around noon today and could never locate the loon or any loon for that matter. The water was very choppy. Although, there were many Forster's Terns flying about, some Bonaparte's Gulls and some Ring-Billed Gulls. I might check again tomorrow on the way out to Lubbock.

Birded the Dutch Branch park after taking a look at the lake from Longhorn park. Saw nothing remotely loon or merganser-ish any where! Will try again on Weds.
