The 2017 Village Creek Drying Beds Christmas Bird Count will be held on Thursday, December 28th.
The Count Leader is Maury Humes. Maury is traveling for work a great deal in December, and he asked Chuck Baskin and I to organize the area leaders and ask for volunteers for this CBC.

The VCDB CBC was first organized in 1999 by Jim Sipiora. The 2017 CBC is the 18th year. The 15-mile circle is centered at the drying beds in north Arlington, and includes 8 areas which includes Arlington, Euless, Bedford, and some of south Colleyville, west edge of Irving, east edge of Richland Hills, north edge of Mansfield. Click here to download the map of the circle and areas.

Some locations within the circle are not covered by any team due to urban encroachment in the mid-cities and lack of volunteers. Many of the areas consist of both walking and driving. The parks at River Legacy, the Drying Beds and the parks along Little Bear Creek in Colleyville, Bedford and Euless have longer trails. Most trails are only 3 miles roundtrip. Only River Legacy has a longer trail (8+ miles)

If you would like to assist a team, or would like to tackle one of the 'open' areas, please let me know. The teams meet the area leaders at dawn, and most are done by dusk. Some area leaders are also willing to have volunteers join their group for just a few hours during the day.
