Default Fort Worth Nature Center Oct. 15

Please join FWAS President Michael Francis for a guided birding/nature walk at the Fort Worth Nature Center and Wildlife Refuge (FWNC&R) on Sunday, October 15, 2017, at 8:15 a.m. We'll meet in front of the Hardwicke Interpretive Center (9601 Fossil Ridge Rd, Fort Worth, TX 76135) at 8:15 a.m., then head out to multiple trail locations from there. We should be through by Noon or thereabouts, but feel free to leave early if you don't have the time to stay till the end. The aim of this field trip is to give you an appreciation of the great diversity that this jewel of a refuge contains, along with lots of ideas for places to take others here on your own. Check on the fee schedule below ** so you come prepared with enough cash to enter the FWNC&R property.

Everyone of all ages is welcome to attend, and be sure to bring binoculars and/or your camera of choice. Most of the FWNC&R is special needs accessible, though parts of the trails might be difficult for a non-powered wheelchair, and do be aware that we'll have to drive between trail-head locations. All of the trail walking we'll do is quite easy - on level ground which is mostly dirt, with the exception for a short boardwalk and occasional bits of pavement. Since we expect to cover at least 4 miles, we recommend wearing sturdy but comfortable walking shoes.

There probably won't be much in the way of mosquitoes or other flying pests, but you never know and might want to have some wipes handy (bug sprays are discouraged as they can damage the optics of cameras and binoculars). Likewise, Poison Ivy should not be a problem, though there is usually some at the margins of some parts of the trails - ALWAYS stay on the trail to avoid contact. As usual, be sure to have some water to carry along to keep hydrated, and be aware of weather conditions leading up to and on the morning of Oct. 15 before heading out to the refuge.

No RSVP is required, but you might want to have Michael's cell number of 817-965-7284 just in case. He can also be reached via E-mail at
