    Default Trinity River Bird Count opportunities

    The Trinity Bird Count seeks to inventory the various bird species that use the Metroplex stretch of the Trinity River in order to inform bird habitat conservation and management along the river. Since 2011, birders have shared observations for more than 240 bird species!

    This project welcomes participation from everyone, from novices to a seasoned birders. Individual observations from solo birding are welcome, and guided groups counts are a great way for beginners to get involved.     Upcoming Counting Events
    You can join a team in one of the areas or go on your own. Tania Homayoun, Senior Conservation Biologist with Audubon Texas (who works out of the Dogwood Canyon Audubon office), will post upcoming team opportunities below as replies to this post.

    Upcoming Guided Counts - Sept. 2015

    Area 7 Trinity Bird Count – Joppa Preserve and Area 5 - Lower Chain of Wetlands
    When: Saturday, September 19, 7:30am – 10:30am
    Where: Joppa Preserve, Dallas, TX, and Lower Chain of Wetlands after
    From I-45, exit Loop 12 and go east a short distance to where the right lane ends. Go right on Boat Ramp exit just past the Service Road exit. Park in the parking lot on the right. When we finish Area 7, for those who can enjoy a little more birding, we will go across the road and spend some time in Area 5, the Lower Chain of Wetlands.

    Upcoming Guided Counts - Oct. & Nov. 2015

    Area 16 Bird Count - West Fort Worth
    When: Saturday, October 10, 7:30am
    Where: Meet at the Trinity Trail at Crestwood Park (3750 Rockwood Park Dr) near Greenwood Cemetery. Then we will drive to Fort Worth River Bend Nature Area off of Hidden Road behind the Rivercrest Country Club.

    Area 1 Bird Count – Campion Trail, Elm Fork of the Trinity River
    When: Saturday, November 7, 7:00am – 10:30am

    When: Saturday, June 4, 2016, 7:30am – 11:00am
    Where: Joppa Preserve, Dallas, TX
    Meet in the Preserve parking lot. From Dallas, head south on I-45 and exit Loop 12 east. Drive east past Hwy 310 for a short distance. Turn right at the Boat Ramp sign and park your car in the parking lot for Little Lake Lemmon on the right (before you get to the Boat Ramp and the river!)

    Upcoming Guided Counts - April 2017

    Trinity Bird Count - Area 18- Clear Fork Trinity River
    Date: Sunday, April 9, 2017
    Time: 7:30am-10:00am
    Meeting Place[/COLOR]: Between 7:00 - 7:30 am meet for coffee at Starbucks, Trinity Commons, 3000 S Hulen St #143, Fort Worth, TX 76109 (near Wild Bird Center)
    Location: Clear Fork Trinity River. We will park on Bellaire near the bridge that crosses the tributary of the river. The trail is a paved. Google maps calls it Fort Worth Branch Trinity Trails System. From there we will walk along the river to just under the bridge at the Chisholm Trail Parkway (Toll Road). We are across the river from the Press Cafe and future home of "The Shops at Clear Fork"
