On Sat 11-6, Susan and I took a visitor form Bedfordshire, England to the beds & RLP. Highlights of the visit to the beds were FOS Buffleheads, 7 Wilson's Snipes, more than 30 Redheads and best of all, 2 Rusty Blackbirds! We also saw a White-faced Ibis, surprised to see one this late.
Notably absent, were any raptors aside from a couple of Kestrels. No sign of the Merlin.
At River Legacy, we walked the little road that runs right behind the beds and as Charley said we would, we found an abundance of Ruby & Golden-crowned Kinglets, along with a Blue-headed Vireo (FOS for me and a lifer for Robin), a couple of Orange-crowned Warblers and the usual complement of Carolina Chickadees.
As Ed commented, we also found a group of youngsters back in the brush - I suspect there was a reason they were out of sight.....
Notably absent from our brief walk through RLP were woodpeckers. We did spot 3 Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers chasing each other through the trees - they were lifers for Robin as well. Aside from hearing 1 Red-bellied Woodpecker & spotting a N. Flicker at the beds very briefly - that was it for the morning.
It was a nice morning, though chilly (37 degrees when we started at 08:20 ish!) and we got 42 species at the beds, a total of 47 between the 2 spots - Robin got a total of 6 lifers for this stateside trip!
Here is a link to Robin's blog, if anyone is interested in birds from the other side of the pond! http://robinsbirds.blogspot.com/
