Earlier today I spotted this kettle of Swainson's on Hwy 77 near Rockdale, TX. Check out the photo of this adult very carefully, or you will miss the coolest part. There were approx 50 birds in this kettle.

Is he carrying his lunch with him? A mouse sandwich, perhaps? I wonder were he keeps the thermos. :D

Must have been what I saw this morning. I didn't count, but I bet there were 75 birds or more in a column like grouping. Same coloration as what you have in your good picture. So that is called a "kettle" of Swainson's hawks? First time for me to see one. I thought it was really interesting. Thanks for posting your picture.
BTW, The group I saw this morning were west of Boyd - between Boyd and Springtown.
