Took a quick drive through this morning and was quite surprised to see 43 Snowy Egrets in bed 36! There were at least 15 LBH's and 4 Great Egrets in the same bed. I don't think I have ever seen that many Snowys at the beds in one day & certainly not in one pond! I stopped to see how the Scissor-tail nest weathered the storm and while the nest looks intact, it appears to have been abandoned. Sad - I was looking forward to watching and photographing the Scissor-tail chicks as they grew. The Black-necked Stilt nest in pond 18 appears to be fine - mom was on the nest & dad nearby - or vice versa!! The nest is close enough that we should be able to get some great shots of the chicks as they grow! Last time I was out there, I had spotted a female Ruddy Duck keeping the stranded male company - didn't see her today.
Was looking at other birding club/audubon websites and found these on the Panhandle Birding Club's site. I thought they were quite humerous and thought someone else might enjoy reading through. Might even identify with some of the thoughts!!!
