What a differnece a day makes ... most of the unit is locked ... access is very limited. Not sure what that is all about.

Did see one Stork .. and 3 Spoonbills ... very light pink. Normal whites, blues, and cattle egrets. White Ibis and Whitefaced were there in numbers.

Rest of the unit was bird poor... should have gone back and tried for better shots on the Kites

Hi Jim,
I stopped at the North Unit on Sunday evening on way back from Lufkin. There was a father and son trying out their waders in one of the canals. The father explained that the unit roads are locked down for Blue-winged Teal season which started Saturday. Hunting is only allowed from 4 AM thru noon, so visiting the unit is safe in the afternoons. Unfortunately if there is much shooting some of the migratinng birds may nove on. They were happy to hear that I saw nearly 100 blue-winged teal starting back on August 21st and again on my fieldtrip on August 30th. But on Sunday I only saw 50. But more were probably hidden back in the tall weeds.

By the way, I saw your other post asking about Bob Stone. Bob is a member of Audubon Dallas. I don't know if he monitors website activities (our's or theirs)

3 pale pink at about 100-150 yds .... no shots worth posting.

Think I will give RC WMA a rest ... until hunting season is over. Or ... at least until it gets cold. Still hope to see the Eagles this year ... followed that juvi last year ... was fun to watch the changes. He left just before he was solid white (where he was supposed to be solid white! lol).

They are putting in new roads .... Spring may be a lot of fun out there this year.... lot more area for the birds to visit. Wish they would do something on the South unit ...... but probably perfect for the deer hunters.
