Went for a hike at the FWNC on Saturday. It was quite wet from the rains and the river was up but not over the banks. There did not appear to be much damage except for a few trees blown over the trails that we had to climb over a few times. There was quite a bit of bird activity though nothing really unusual. Gnatcatchers, Titmouse, Chickadees, Wrens, and Cardinals were ever-present all along the trails. Did not see any ducks on the river, just a few Egrets and Herons.
It was a great day for a hike but as midday approached the humidity took it's toll. That Starbucks Carmel Frapeccino really hit the spot.

I probably saw you out there, Charley, and didn't realize it. Managed to get this shot at Lotus Marsh - there's a pair of Prothonotary Warblers nesting in one of the support posts on the boardwalk.

Hi Laura,

Thanks very much for the comment on the pics. My camera is a Nikon D80 SLR. Up until this year I was using a Nikon 70-300mm zoom as my primary lens for wildlife, but as my interest in birding began to ramp up, I realized it really wasn't up to the task of getting the "serious" shots I was looking for. So about mid-January I took a deep breath, promised the wife anything she ever wanted and bought a Sigma 500mm/f4.5 lens (the Nikon equivalent was totally out of reach). I've been very happy with the results and I'm having a great time learning new things about both photography and birding.
