When birding gets slow at your normal haunts you've got to find new places to get your new bird fix. So why not check up on the status of your state endangered birds by making trips to their homes... kind of like a doctor's house visit.
My first visit was to a family of friendly woodpeckers, red cockaded woodpeckers at that. I read a report that W.G. Jones State Forest was a great place to see them. So, I hopped in a car and drove down there and boy if I didn't know that they were endangered I would think that they are common. They were everywhere! I give credit to the management of that park for the exquisite viewing opportunities and conservation of this species.

Just checking in on the family

The kids aren't hungry anymore

Like a super hero off to find food
My other visit will be this weekend to the Black-capped Vireo at South Llano River State Park, hopefully they will still be there as well as other birds that are good friends with the Vireo.
Thanks,
