Does anyone know if the Barred Owls are currently nesting in Colleyville? I'd like to try for some photos if they are. Thanks!

I haven't been out there in a little while, so I don't know. I had thought about driving over there for a quick look tomorrow. If I find anything, I will post it. Last time I was there, there had been some damage to the top of the snag.I thought I caught a glimpse of something feathery looking inside the snag, but if I did it was transient.

Where in Colleyville do they roost? I live in CV.
ps
We have Mississippi Kites in our backyard. I've never seen them here before but they must be nesting in one of our tree's because I see them fly over the house with long grasses in their beaks.
Are Mississippi Kites common around here? They are very pretty birds.

Gigi,

I don't know how I missed your post and i just saw your PM, I am so sorry! I was so busy at work last week and tyhen Susan and I went to Junction. I haven't taken a look to see if the owls were actually nesting since about mid April. When I was there last, I thought I saw the top of an owlets head, by then I wasn't so sure! If you want to go look, I can get you to the spot.

Once you park, walk down the paved path that goes to the right, but follow the path as it goes left. Pass the first bridge on your left and keep walking. Looking towards the left as you walk, you will find a couple of small fences with an entry way in the middle - go through that entry way. Look to the right and you will see small stone "chairs" and you will see dirt path to the right, behind the "chairs". Follow that path. It will take you out into a grassy area with a pond on your right, keep walking, looking for the first path to your left. Take the path to the left and then take the first path to the right. You will see a bridge in front of you ; as you are walking to the bridge, look for a snag on the right side. It has been damaged at the top, so the best way to view it now is to walk to the bridge and then turn to look at the snag. If they actually had owlets, they may have already fledged. The adult owls usually sit in the trees some where close to the snag. If you don't see one right off the bat, take a few minutes and look at the trees a little farther back. Let me know if you see any thing!:)
