I think we need a general "birds in the DFW area" sub-forum!
What a great day! First the weather today was awesome - couldn't have asked for better! Got out later that I had planned and was thinking that it was generally way too late to get any birds since I got to the park at 10 a.m. I couldn't have been more wrong!
As soon as I walked across the bridge, I spotted a Nashville Warbler and then turned to cross the bridge and found Susan Thrower & Polly Schulle coming my way! Now I had great company
We managed a very respectable 35 species by my count. The birds were active ALL day.
Warblers:
Canada - lifer for all of us
Mourning - lifer for all of us
Am. Redstart - trashbird for the day!
Wilson's - 2 nd trashbird
Magnolia (male & female)- trashbird -ish
Blackburnian x 2
Yellow x 1
Chestnut-sided - several
Bay-breasted - lifer for me
Nashville
Vireos:
Blue-headed
Red-eyed
possible Warbling - we heard song & didn't see. Have to check song to confirm
Flycatchers:
Great Crested - at least 6 by my count
Olive-sided x 2 - lifer for me & an unexpected find, was looking for a Canada!
empid x 4 - absolutely silent - absolutely unfair since I have been brushing up on my empid calls!
Least - seen by Polly
Other highlights:
Kestrel zipping through the trees
Yellow-billed Cuckoo - was hoping for the Black-billed that Perry Ping had seen a couple days ago.
Swainson's Thrush - I missed it AGAIN! Another couple spotted both a Swainson's & a Gray-cheeked. I got neither.....
Spotted Mary Lee Johnson about an hour before we left!
Awesome day! Would go tomorrow if I didn't have to work. Think I can call in "birdsick"?!!!:D
