I saw this as I was driving the back western road. The coloring is what threw me off and my photos don't quite convey the coloring that I saw through my bins. The bird struck me as a yellowy/orange. My first thought was female Blue Grosbeak ,but the females I have seen weren't quite this color - more of a warm rust/rufous; this bird had no hint of blue on wings any where. Same for Indigo females that I have seen - plain'ish brown. I know there is variation in coloration, but I would like to make sure I have the ID correct. Thanks for the assist in advance.

That would have to be a young Painted Bunting, Laura, with the faint greenish-yellow that I think I'm seeing. Everything else looks right and I'm assuming it was the size of a bunting. There will be a lot of these youngsters popping up in various places this time of the year.

Thanks Joe! The coloring really threw me off - I looked at it for several minutes before I took my shots. It was around 12 pm and it just looked so yellowy-orange. I have seen a few Painted Bunting juvies, but not quite this coloring. I did play with the exposure because in my photo was darker overall than I really thought it would be at that time of day.
