On Monday I will be returning to Lubbock to get ready for school, but I have planned to make this trip more interesting.
Goal: 80 bird species from the time I wake up in Arlington until it gets dark in Lubbock.
I will start out by birding my backyard at sunrise. Then I will drive to the road next to the drying beds at around 7:00 and walk that until the Beds open for vehicles. Bird the beds and River Legacy until 10:00 and then return home to pack my truck for school. Get on the road by 10:45 and bird while driving. If time allows it, I will take a detour to White River Lake south of Dickens which I hear is very good for birds. Getting to Lubbock around 4:00, I will have time to check out my two favourite places; a mountain bike trail behind Mackenzie Park and Clapp Park. Clapp park is next to the Lubbock arboretum and often has a large variety of western migrants. The mountain bike trail is very rocky and has sage and mesquites and has birds more characteristic of the desert regions of Texas.
With a little luck I will hopefully be able to achieve this goal.
I'll post the results Monday night...hopefully.
Thanks,
Cameron
