The FWAS Board of Directors met on Thursday, October 6th. Our scheduled meeting for September was canceled because of multiple conflicts for board members.

The board adopted a new budget for the 2011-2012 fiscal year. We are currently budgeted to spend up to $28,000 (approximately). That includes up to $10,000 in grants, $4,000 in scholarships, and $4,500 for Audubon Adventures kits which are supplied to science classes in middle schools and junior highs.

We are anticipating $15,000 in income which will leave us with a net loss of as much as $13,000 for the upcoming year. That would still leave us with over $50,000 in our bank accounts. The board feels this number can be reduced further without endangering the health of the chapter.

Susan Thrower will once again oversee the grant program, Paula Murphy will handle the scholarships, and Ann Halligan will head up the Audubon Adventures kits.

The board also considered changes to the chapter's by-laws. These mainly focused on house keeping items, including the wording of committee creation and who exactly is an officer as opposed to a board member. We are also considering more specific clauses covering grants and conflict of interest.

We were reminded that our rental of the meeting rooms ends at 9 p.m. and we need to make a better effort to shorten our meetings to meet that deadline.

Reports were heard from VPs of field trips and programs, as well as the officers in charge of membership, newsletters, and hospitality.

It was a long but very productive meeting and I thank everyone who attended.
