today's update is- the painted bunting showed up again but brought along 2 male indigo buntings. never had that at my feeders before. seem to show up only around 8:30 a.m. also 5 chipping sparrows were here too.

Wondering if all the burned areas to the west will bring more birds seeking food and water into yards. I'm keeping extra supplies out just in case. The mulberries are ripening rapidly, so I'm hoping to see more visitors here soon! Jealous of your PB and his IB friends!!:)

Birder 13, what feed do you have in your feeder and what type of a feeder is it?

it's a tube type feeder with millet. they seem to like millet.

Yes, I started keeping millet in my feeders all summer when I realized the painted buntings are not shy at all about coming to the feeders! I have read that white millet is their favorite.

If you have any Tractor Supply Stores in your area you can purchase a mix that contains white millet and feed stores usually carry a mix or some have bins with different types of seeds that you can dip to create your own mix. Marshall Grain and Russell Feed in Ft Worth used to have that type of set up, not sure if they still do. Also some cage bird mixes contain millet but that gets to be expensive if you feed the birds as much as I do.

Just wanted to drop a little reminder that the Painted Buntings absolutely love bath times. Several good friends who live in rural areas show me awesome pics of buntings in their birdbaths. :)
